  • Don’t take any chances – It’s always better to be safe than sorry.
  • Lock your entrance and balcony door every time you leave the apartment, and keep your valuables in the safe box. Don’t carry too much cash with you.
  • Avoid walking between West Bay Beach and West End during the day or night, as there have been ambush robberies in the area. We strongly advise against taking any risks.
  • Join Facebook groups like Ask Anything Roatan, Roatan Travel/Support Roatan Discussion Group, Roatan Entertainment, and Roatan Schedule (activities and events) to get valuable tips, recommendations, and experiences from other travellers. Use the search option at the top of the page to find a plethora of useful information.
  • Download the WhatsApp It is widely used by many people on the Island and you will have effective communication with tour operators or taxi drivers.
  • Do not drive a scooter at night. Most of car/scooter accidents and robberies occur from ambush or motorcycles theft, so it’s best to stay safe and avoid driving after dark. Use car rental or taxi service.
  • Negotiate the taxi fare before getting into the car. Don’t let the driver take advantage of you.
  • For your safety, avoid using water taxis at night. If you want to explore West End, it’s best to use a water taxi before sunset. If you miss it, take a regular taxi back to your apartment.
  • Avoid jogging or walking on the main road as it is narrow, and many drivers are not careful. Instead, take the trails leading up to Infinity Bay towards the Grand Roatan Hotel, Lighthouse states, and Turrets area.
  • Please do not touch corals, starfish, and other underwater animals, and do not buy sea shells. Keep your distance and observe them so that they remain undisturbed for your next visit.
  • Avoid making advance payments for tours. Payment can always be made on the day of the arranged tour.
  • Do your part in helping the locals by tipping generously. Islanders are living in harsh conditions and they do work hard, so if you feel they deserve it, tip them well. If you wonder how much you should tip, our answer is as much as you can.
  • It is important to note that the Island has a significant population of stray dogs and cats. As such, we kindly request that you refrain from feeding them at the property. Instead, we encourage you to send your donations to the local animal shelter.
